Thanx, the problem is almost solved with the link you send me, yes it is
some thing with my xorg.conf. The only thing that stills not going ok is
the desktop effects (the deffault effects that come in ubuntu) I tried
to change it in System>Preferences>Appearence Visual effects, from none
to normal, and it gives me this message of "The Desktop effects were
unable to be activated" (is a translation actually it says "No se han
podido activar los efectos de escritorio") I have looked for
xorg.conf.bak and it does exist, I made
sudo cp /etc/X11/xorg.conf.bak /etc/X11/xorg.conf
then
sudo reboot
but still being the same thing... why?

Well, if you run the command to reconfigure xorg, it's very likely that the bak file is no longer the one which you had before the problems started as each program rewrites.

You do not say what graphic card you have. If it is an nvidia, have a look in xorg.conf
If you find "nv" there it means you use the free driver which does not support 3D acceleration. You need to use "nvidia" instead. I am in Windows right now, so do not know the exact name of the menu entry. Have a look for something like "Enable proprietary drivers" In this way you should be able to enable nvidia module.

Good luck

dinel
