I'm inclined to agree. The only area of Linux I've spend (wasted)
significant amounts of time in has to be printing.

I'm not convinced it's driver problems. When the whole shebang actually
works the quality of the output, particularly the gimp-print drivers, is
actually very good.

I have problems with the spooling mainly. It seems that large print jobs
just disappear. If I produce a document in OO.o with several bitmaps in
it, the CPU load indicates that *something* is happenning, then nothing
comes out and the job disappears from the queue.

Adding printers stinks. It's supposed to work 'just like that' with
CUPS, but they expect me to pay for an easy way to install GPL printer
drivers????!

CUPS was supposed to be the answer to all the printing headaches, but it
just isn't as far as my experience goes.
