Hi All
Just a reminder that I'm also unable to be there on Saturday as off to
the peak district for the weekend, should be there on the 18th.
I've been playing with Mint 7 all week and I like it a lot although I
downloaded the Main Edition iso off the web as the Universal Edition LXF
cover disc is the totally free software version and does not have a lot
of the multi media codecs needed for playing DVD, mp3 etc to comply with
Patent issues in the States and Japan.
Next week if we have the time I would like to learn how to install new
software from .tgz packages as I know this requires a little work in the
command line and I've not got round to learning how to do it yet.
.deb packages are no problem as the universal installer takes over and
just does all the work including finding any dependency packages needed,
but there is still some software that I would like to try that need to
be installed from .tgz files.
Looking forward to meeting Dave again (assuming you can make it) and
Collin for the first time.
Well it's back to an install of Mint 7 on a Freecycle box I'm getting
ready for sending out.
Mike, do you have any 256mb SDRam spare, as being able to put 512 in
this would be good I have loads of 128's if you would consider a swap?
Its a Dell P4 1.7gig CPU but the board will only take SDRam I have a 256
and a 128 in there at the moment but given the processor it would be
good to give it a little more umph in the memory department before it
goes to a new home, as 384 is the recommended minimum needed for the
latest Ubuntu.
See you on the 18th
Regards
Tony Hughes
