Hi Tony
Thank You muchly. I never thought of it either. When I got it home I had it wired to do odds n ends (Browser icon, desktop pretty for her etc) & then focussed on the Tower updates....
I'm hoping to get at the laptop tomorrow or soon after ~ will keep you posted.
Thanks again
Elizabeth

Hi Elizabeth
With all the issues with the screen resolution I didn't even think of WiFi issues yesterday
Yes first try installing the additional driver it is saying is needed if that does not work you may need to install the b43-fwcutter package via the package manager. Open synaptic and search for Broadcomm and you will get the driver you need displayed . Install the b43-fwcutter package and this should enable Mint to recognise the wifi card is present. You may need to reboot to activate the driver but after that you should get the wifi manager showing and see any wifi networks available. (see screen shot)
Let me know if it works
Tony

Hi All
I'm struggling to enable Wireless on a fairly old E-System laptop which had Mint 13 installed on Saturday. (Done as a favour for a friend who donated heavily to my Charity). The laptop is currently with her but she can't get online (Sky).... I'm hoping to get access to it again tomorrow:
Having done a bit of scouting I've found the following possibilities...
1. ? possible switch not in the "on" position.
2. right click on the wireless applet & select "Enable Wireless Networking" ~
except that there is no wireless applet.....
3. Do I need to download an additional driver? eg From the Menu; Preferences; Additional Drivers download and
install the Broadcomm driver. For reference the file is
bcmwl-kernel-source_5.100.82.38+bdcom-0ubuntu6.1_i386.deb
Does anyone have any other alternatives or see faults with above please?
Thanks
Elizabeth
