[Blackpool] Pinterest problem

Thanks Arthur.

I've fired up other Tower. (don't want to risk main one in case I mess up.) Going to have a go at OpenDNS solution.

Will get back on this.

Hi Elizabeth,
Nothing you've put there discounts some weird little DNS issue.

If the button (or the java or whatever) in the page that isn't working is on a different URL to the buttons that are working and the DNS is not quite right with it, some people will never see it whilst others will.

DNS isn't the definite problem but it's still a fair shout.

I'd go with the OpenDNS solution, is that what Les originally suggested? yes I'd go with that as a starting point.

Then if that didn't work I'd look at that prefetching feature Firefox has. Us software development types sometimes say that code can have a smell, and for me that prefetching idea is a bit whiffy.

That Mozilla link I sent is worth working through, I didn't know that security software can affect the browser even when the security software is disabled! I rubbed my eyes when I read that, but Mozilla are saying that's the case and suggest how to fix it in that link.

(I assume you have been through all of the addins in Firefox and in fact this problem happens when its a fresh Firefox install so it's not add ins. But let us know if that's not the case.)

Regards

Arthur

Need to explain the problem further before continuing:

I list an item for sale on eBid..... inside the body of the listing is a row of 7 Social Media buttons including Pinterest. All well and good. That Pinterest Button INSIDE the listing is absolutely fine for all concerned - it is always there & works well.

However, if I edit the listing - or put up a new item for sale, ie a new listing - then once I have completed the listing a window pops up (like it should) which tells me either my changes have been saved or my new listing is successful and on this window all 7 Social Media Buttons should appear - but some of us only get the 6 Buttons - the Pinterest Button is missing on that page only.

The majority of users have no problem at all with that page and can see all 7 Buttons and can pin anywhere. For me, and other users, we can't Pin to Pinterest from that page but have to go back into the body of the listing to use the Pinterest Button there - and that is a real pain.

I also downloaded the Pinterest Button onto my browser toolbar - what a mess that was - I was somehow able to use it but it was such a palaver I removed it. Majority can use a toolbar Pinterest Button with no problems whatsoever.

I've asked on Forum for ISP's - waiting for replies.

Does it still seem like a DNS issue in the light of this please?

Elizabeth

Oops a knowledgable person did chime in to say the dev wasn't talking rot... Thanks Les!
Check out the advice here from DNS prefetching and Firefox cannot load certain websites and then the bit about DNS malware.https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-cant-load-websites-other-browsers-can

Hello
ElizabethAre all the folk with the same internet service provider? If so you will all have a central DNS server which all of you will connect to.If you feel up to it, change your DNS server using this video.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CpjVtteqkmE

Arthur,Good call with DNS!

Thanks for yours Arthur.

Just to recap:

3 of my 4 computers have the problem, 1 works fine.

All have same OS & browser. (Linux & Firefox)

Several other folk have the same problem - all have different Windows OS & use different browsers.

The majority of folk have no problem whatsoever irrespective of which OS or browser is used.

Do you still think the DNS cache is the culprit?

Thanks for your input.
