I think you can switch the worst stuff off and it becomes something akin to using google search/chrome/gmail.  (I have Gmail, but I don't use it.)
I predict:Before the end of 2015 there will be a big stink and M$ will face pressure, possibly legal (and definitely from French government!) to make most of those 13 pages of privacy settings to be opt-in rather than opt-out.
