This is a reply to mohaar1, but it may be of interest to you all.

Hello -
I am sorry no one has replied to you. I will explain what is happening in
Blackpool.
Because the LUG is affiliated to PC Recycler Ltd, most users are more
interested in the computer than the OS.
Many people will get a mobile phone or a TV digi box with no interest or
even knowledge of of the OS, and so it is here.

Between 2003 and 2006, in Blackpool, PC Recycler gave away over 300
computers with Mandriva linux installed. We continue to provide either
PCLOS/minime, or Puppy Linux
The users are shown how to browse with Firefox and collect email with
Thunderbird, and that is usually the last we hear of them.

Because I also have a business to run, I do not chase after users trying to
coerce them into having a meeting, I believe they could do that themselves
if the interest was there.
After all, there is this mailing list, the web site is open for comments, I
am on the end of the 'phone between 10-2 four days a week and visitors are
also welcome to drop in at the workshop.

I know more could be done, but I do not have the time.

If anyone is interested in putting time into organising some LUG meetings, I
would be willing to provide our workshop as an initial venue, maybe for an
'install fest'.
