Hello
after talking to David & Wayne about moving the mailing list to google
groups
We decided to make it a open vote with in the group.
I was meant to bring it up at the last meeting but I forgot , D'oh
For those that don't know, we are in the process of abandoning the
lug.org.uk webhosting and using our own hosting for reasons beyond the
scope of this email.
Reasons Why *I'd* like us to move to google groups
- Spam filters are better
- Leave the lug.org.uk and start a fresh
- 30 members changing to is better then 100 members
- Web interface is much better.
(e.g http://groups.google.com/group/atlanta-linux-enthusiasts?lnk= )
- Archives are infinity more user friendly.
(e.g <goog_1244880886071>http://groups.google.com/ <goog_1244880886071>
group/atlanta-linux-
<goog_1244880886071>enthusiasts/<http://groups.google.com/group/atlanta-linux-enthusiasts/>
vs
http://mailman.lug.org.uk/pipermail/bradford/ )
- Able to use web site if member Isn't happy to use the email system,
rather not get emails at every post or in digest
- RSS feeds .. needs I say more (could be handy for the lug website)
- Certificates are not "self signed"
https://mailman.lug.org.uk/mailman/listinfo/bradford
While they are still valid and secure for a new user to Linux or even the
internet this "Secure Connection Failed" would be very off putting to
signing up to the mailing list (if you have already added the cert you
won't see error)
- Administration interface is better for us
Can't think of any more atm, but you get the idea
It's also worth pointing out we are using google apps
http://www.google.com/apps/ for calender and email and anything else we
might use.
I've set up a poll for your vote.
