I can't pretend to know how to solve this but I have certainly heard quite a lot about it in podcasts. As I understand it The Linux Foundation(TLF) is trying to bring about an easy way to solve this UEFI debacle. Although there is a regulatory body involved it seems that Microsoft has a hand in it and it appears that they are taking their time over it.
The idea is that TLF will have a key that can be used on all Linux distributions. The last I heard about the progress of this was back in November.
The advice, in the meantime, is to disable the UEFI, which, afaik, means a physical configuration on the motherboard - if the motherboard concerned has the facility to disable it.
Canonical were going to use a different method of solving this but now it is 'up in the air'.
IMHO I don't think that Microsoft should be allowed to have any control over this - it should be left to the regulatory body, otherwise we are back to a similar situation that used to exist between BT and it's rivals before BT was split up.

I'm a member of Bradlug but I've only just registered with facebook as
no one seems to use the forum anymore. I bought a Fujitsu LifeBook
with Win8 on it for my daughter in law and of course should have
realized that the thing has the bloody security protected Uefi boot
loader on it. I need help and am prepared to pay for time and trouble.
Mike.
