Or maybe now that the world is ready for Pi-like devices, it'll be
quicker to get better systems out to the world.  The two devices I
linked to are very much Kickstarter-type projects, one of which easily
reached the funding target - the other is well on the way.  And if
they can avoid having to distribute via retailers whilst managing
large enough batch sizes then they may well be able to keep prices
pretty low.
