[Bradford] Training and Certificates

Have to submit a list of desirable courses for the next year and was
wondering if there are any recommendations for courses or certification
with a *nix/open source slant:

Linux System Admin (particularly web servers)
General server networking (web facing data centres, firewalls, switches,
discovery)
Automation tools (build, config management, deployment), things like
Jenkins, puppet.

How are certs like the LPI considered today (looks a useful goal) - and
buying a useful selection of books to go with ?
