Hi all, For those of you who know Hebden Bridge you may have come across the Alternative Technology Centre (www.alternativetechnology.co.uk) based in Hebble End Mill, just off the canal towpath. They have a new thing they are developing, "Make Place", inspired by Hackspaces, fab lab etc. t the moment it is at a very early stage and they have some Ubuntu desktops and Raspberry Pi hardware. They are just about to take delivery of RepRap 3D printer (if you were at Bridge Rectifier you may have met Gary). I went to talk to Gary and Polly there yesterday about what they are doing and currently they are looking for some help with the following: Skills Share Workshops - aimed at introducing novice computer users and MS users to OSS. These would be a couple of hours of an evening. At the moment they have someone who will do audio recording with Audacity. They are looking at covering Linux Installs, Libre Office, Gimp, Inkscape etc. They are after people to run a workshop (or more if you are keen) as a way of testing the water. Raspberry Pi - The ATC would like to create a display of what Raspberry Pi can be used for or get some ideas about how people are using it to try and stimulate interest in people using Pi modules to develop their own application. Once the Reprap comes Gary is planning to get a few interested people together to get it built and then up and running. If anyone is interested or has any expertise offers of help would be appreciated. At the moment things are at an early stage and they are busy getting things organised and sorting out plans for the near future. If you are interested If you can get back to me in the next week I'll collate all the responses and get back to them. Polly also promised to email me a potted history and a summary of plans for the future, so I will share that once it comes and If anyone is interested in getting involved, I'm sure all offers will be appreciated. I suggested someone coming over to speak at one of the meetings, and Gary is happy to do that in two or three months time when more is up and running.
