[Bradford] Recovering "missing" files from NTFS

What are the best tools/methods for recovering missing files from NTFS
under Linux (Ubuntu or LiveUSB/CD) ?

When I have done this in the past I've taken a full disk image to work from.

I've yet to receive the drive, so don't know the cause (hardware failure,
filesystem corruption or accidental deletion).
