I've only just discovered this but it seems to be an on-going, established program available on all platforms but Linux is first choice. On Ubuntu, for example, there is a choice of a download, a resources set up or a snap install.

It is peer to peer and open source. Although they say there is no server I do find it confusing that the settings include a settable proxy to their web site and a unique username is required. Maybe the proxy is just for the management and whether it is possible to have your own proxy I don't know at this stage.
Has anyone here had any experience with Jami? 

I would like to try it out with a group of people. Is anyone willing to try it out with me? Volunteers queue here :-) :-)
