I normally prefer the Emacs GUI myself, but I do occasionally
like to dive into the sweet GUI goodness of XFCe, PWM or Ratpoison. ;-)

Perhaps we can take some screenshots of Screen and use them
in a LUG advertising campaign when Longhorn is released?

Anyway, was there a question about converting .DAT?
I'm afraid multimedia isn't my thing, but I believe .DAT is
the format used in VCD. which is well supported in 
mplayer/mencoder:

You can pipe the output to most formats. There are some
examples in the man page I believe.
