LOCATION: Liverpool Social Centre, Bold St --- The venue is in the basement of the building and there's a door to the right of the News From Nowhere bookshop entrance. Press the buzzer marked "basement" and someone will be along to let you in. As you may have seen on the mailing list recently we've had some changes to LivLUG personnel and in light of those we've postponed Neil Bothwick's talk to next month. This meeting we will focus on the structure of LivLUG itself, what we want it to be and how we make that happen. Sounds exciting doesn't it? Ok maybe not but we'll have a discussion about LUG business at the LSC then move on to The Shipping Forecast on Slater Street for drinks. If you've got ideas to share on the future of LivLUG please come along and do so. All are welcome. Any problems finding us please contact me and I'll help out. Hope to see many of you there, Dan Lynch ---------------------------------------- Email: dan at danlynch.org Tel: 07779165528 -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Apologies for not sending out a reminder earlier, I've had a couple of manic weeks with a bunch of deadlines so the meet went out of my head completely! I have been investigating new venues, but getting responses from some people hasn't been easy. I've had a few responses from local community places, but it would be good to get all your thoughts on hiring somewhere. I'm happy to maybe bring along some soft drinks to resell, how would everyone feel about contributing a few pounds to the room hire? It shouldn't really work out any more expensive if we consider how much we'd spend on drinks in a normal LUG meet. One place has quoted £35 for three hours, which I think is a bit much! I'm hoping to find something sub £20. Will keep you all updated. TALK: X10 Home Automation - Neil Bothwick -------------------------- Greetings all, Winter is drawing nearer so why not come along to Liverpool Linux User Group and forget about the October weather for a little while. This month we have a talk by our very own Neil Bothwick on X10 home automation. >From Neil: "X10 is a hardware control protocol that passes signals over the mains electrical circuit. This talk will look at how hardware and software can interact using the X10 protocol to control equipment in the home, either automatically through scripts or interactively through a web interface or mobile phone." Sounds cool doesn't it? A kind of "Pimp My House" type affair, but rest assured Tim Westwood will not be invited and I doubt he'll turn up of his own accord :) We'll convene from 7pm but the talk begins at 7:30pm. Afterwards we'll probably retire to The Shipping Forecast for more discussion over drinks. So come and join us. Everyone is welcome and meetings are always friendly and informal.
