I meant MBR, as in the Master Boot Record that's been on the first sector of a hard drive since forever, and has now been upgraded to a GUID Partition Table, aka GPT, which 'fdisk' recoils in horror from. People keep saying I should be using 'parted' instead. I especially like this bit in the man page: "Like the original fdisk program, gdisk does not modify disk structures until you explicitly write them to disk, so if you make a mistake, you can exit from the program with the ’q’ option to leave your partitions unmodified." I never got the thinking behind parted's 'sudden death' formatting style. The bar staff will direct you through a fairly anonymous looking door and you will feel like you're walking into the kitchen :-) If you turn around you'll see the stairs and our room will be straight ahead.
