[Chester LUG] Power spikes

Hi,

 Wondering if anyone know anything about power surges/cuts re computer
hardware. We had a power cut recently and despite having machines behind
UPS/PDUs two didn't come backup - I some how thought UPS/PDU were there to
prevent this type of thing.
