KDE Plasma has improved the standard immensely since then.
The resource footprint is a lot smaller (among the best for a major DE)
and the eye candy so configurable you can make it look like almost
anything you want.
Make KDE look like a tiling window manager

Make KDE look like Unity <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RSBMn6eGH88>
Make KDE look like MacOS <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A7RQfYNbh6U>
Make KDE look like Pantheon <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nOXIyRJfMhc>
Make KDE look like Windows 10 (Yeuch)

Just a few things easily found on yoochoob.
Perhaps because I just know after all these years how to do and fix
stuff with KDE/Plasma I don't really try anything else.
Gnome just looks and feels awful.
Tiling managers never worked for me in that I don't see the benefit.
And Win10? Well let's leave it there shall we. LOL
