Well, I think he means socialising in the sense of guys with similar
interests chatting about all things Linux, not just having a few
pre-arranged topics and be done with it.

Agreed, but it's only fair that the group also provides stimulus for the
guru types as well as newcomers -- a good balance needs to be found.

Good post and I'm pretty much in agreement with all that's been said. It's
difficult catering for two different levels of experience, but ideally we
could cater for both -- newcomers exchanging tips and advice, gurus
demonstrating ways of achieving things and helping the new users, and some
more complex stuff for the long-time Linux users as well.
With a couple of hours per meeting, this kinda setup should be feasible.
As a Linux journo I've got a decent knack of explaining more advanced
subjects for the uninitiated, so hopefully I can be of some help!
