Done it :o)
Have a look at
www.piggz.fsnet.co.uk/desktop1.png
Here are some tips for setting up kde on windows
download the latest xserver test series (test 75) into /usr/X11R6/bin
bunzip the file
this will give you XWin-Test75.exe
symlink /usr/X11R6/bin/X to the above
add the following to your .xinitrc 'startkde'
add the following to your .xserverrc 'X -rootless'
enter startx and your away
You will notice that kde takes over your desktop, but as you can see by my
screeenshot ive got rid of that:
Its a bit of a hack and im sure there is a better way but just rename
kdesktop.exe and kdesktop.dll to
stop the desktop loading.
Oh, and set your windows taskbar to autohide

The latest one from the Cygwin/XFree site [1].
> Are there any docs online for setting it up?
There's documentation [2] - that's where I found out about the fullscreen
mode [3]. I discovered the -rootless argument on the front page though.
They have added multiple windows (mixing Windows and X Windows like Apple's
X11 client [4]) capability into the developer version - there's a
screenshot
here [5] and here [6].
