Ah, pgaccess is a front end to PostgreSQL. A very good SQL server.
pgaccess will not work stand-alone. Check out www.postgresql.org or
the newsgroups - comp.databases.postgresql.*
I use Postgresql in preference to MySQL. There is a lot more
functionality in PG than there is in MySQL, PG is also more SQL99 standard
that a lot of DBs. Unfortunately, if you are not used to using
something like Oracle, the learning curve is steep.
MySQL is good too. It is easier to use and in for most peoples needs
is ideal. It is very quick too. It looses out in functionality as a
trade off (although this situation may not last for long).
If you are looking for a GUI to build design your database, then you
are in trouble :-(
Most of the GUI interfaces for Open Source DBs that I've seen are
commercial, ie ££££
If you *have* access you could always ling this via ODBC to the SQL
server back end.
Another option, I believe, is Staroffice. I think this has something
attempting to be like Access, but it uses the ADABAS database backend.
I am going from *flaky* memory here so I may be completely wrong :-(
I'm sure someone will shoot me if I am....
