Wow, a whole email without extolling the virtues of OpenBSD (although 
you did mention IPF in passing) - are you feeling alright? :P

Agree on the Anti-Virus thing for mixed environments, especially on 
file/mail servers, but I'm not about to start running it on my 
desktop(s) just for the sheer hell of it - I've run Windows for years 
sans AV software without incident (through sensible usage), so I expect 
Linux to be even better in this respect.
