Well, I got it kinda sorted out but now getting an error in 
/etc/ppp/connect-errors: 

pppoa:read(AsyncReadFromPPP):Input/output error 

Any ideas? Again, googled it but all the results are in French about an 
eagle USB modem 

The read-me for the Sagem drivers says that RH8 can auto-detect the required 
DNS settings so I let it.  This didn't work so I set them manually as per 
the read-me but it made no difference.
