[cumbria_lug] Any ACPI experts around?

I'm having a problem with a desktop machine (eMachines 370). Under Ubuntu it
never switches the CPU fan on - leading to an overheat and an unpleasant crashing
of the system :)

I've raised comments on various kernel bugs (E.g.
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-source-2.6.17/+bug/70739 ) but to
no avail yet - so wondering if there's anyone closer to home with any ideas on
how I might debug/fix/better report this?
