[Deaf-lug] old laptop debian installed

tried ubuntu using alternate cd (suprided about a range of distro's
they have but nice!)
annyway did everything till i came to reboot ,display problem does not
show anything on screen... arrgh It was late so i will tackle it again
soon as i have finished work.

So any ideas what i could try before i do some reading/seraching
