Cable select was supposed to elminate the setting of master and slave, but
never really caught on, the main reason being that many standard ide cables
don't support it. The only desktop PC's i have found it working in is 486
compaqs.
does the DVD drive work as secondary master with no slave?
Have you definitly set the boot from CDROM option in the bios?
what is the make/model of the DVD drive?
