I hav mandrake set up fine on my other (slower)machine. I think my distro
may be to old for my hardware on the newer machine using mandrake 8.2.

You got a nFroce chipset? Or are you talking graphics drivers? But you
installed Debian on it ok right? You just couldn't boot into it or
windows afterwards?
I'm afraid without a more detailed description of your setup/hardware
etc and what the exact problem you have is, I can't really persue this
any further...

Sometimes, but I've seen many a Linux install that is way simpler and
error and reboot free than Windows. Also the fact that a majority of the
drivers you need come with the OS, is a huge plus.
Unless you have some piece of crazy hardware... ;)
