"Accelerated C++" looks good as already know the basic theory of programing (from java). my friend has also recomended to me "C++: The Complete Reference" (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0072226803/qid=1046011958/sr=2-1/ref=sr_2_1/102-3152687-2109756#product-details)
> is it any good? i have borrowed some books from my schools library and have researched some of the basics of C++ however these books were witten in 1998 and 1997 and so i would like a more up-to-date book. i was wondering how you generate a random number in C++ (none of my books will tell me)

thanks
