Hi

A sort of mixed linux Mac OS X question here.

When I recently upgraded from OS X 10.3 (Panther) to 10.4 (Tiger) my
Samsung ML-4600 network printer ceased to work despite installing
several drivers. It's a network printer attached to a simple
Mandrake File / Print server.

I work around it by printing to a Postscript file on a Samba share
located on the linux server few in my study. I then SSH into the
server and lpr the PS file

Works fine and I am pleased with myself though I have a feeling that
I'm somehow re-inventing the wheel!

I wonder if I can automate this process a bit?

Ideally I'd like to just print the PS file to a specific folder on
the share and have it thrown at LPR on the server automagically.

On Mac OS X you could achieve this by attaching a folder action
script to the folder which would be triggered by the creation of the
PS file.

Alternatively is there some way of triggering the shell script on the
server from a shell script on the OS X machine?

Is there some way of passing a password and the name of an executable
along with the login name in the SSH command?

Alternatively I have heard about Expect

Is this hard to learn, I'm not a programmer but can cobble together a
simple shell script

Cheers
Fionnbar
