I know what you mean, they are anything but howtos. They are reference material and little more. However, I don't think a rewrite is honestly what was intended. What they would be would be short, easy to follow references for new users. Cut down so they wouldn't need a lot of the flags. Not a rewrite, more... an abridged version.
