They are only afew £s on ebay, install it on a pc then transfer it over.

It doesn't have to be a packard bell that you install from. If you're
putting
linux on then you wont have any problems installing on one machine and then
moving to another, you can even use a USB enclosure for the drive so you
don't
even need to find a laptop with the same HD connectors (you do for windows,
unless you're willing to play with a windows install CD to add
install-to-usb
functionality). Windows will complain about the hardware changing when you
put
it back in your own machine (but it can usually be sorted out), linux will
just work so long as you have drivers for all the hardware (which pretty
much
means don't go with a stripped down kernel for the computer you're
installing
on before moving the drive back unless the laptop has some weird hardware).
If the drive is a 2.5" PATA variety then I do have a couple of USB
enclosures
that could be used for the installation but I'm in Livingston ATM so you can
probably find someone closer (or buy one - they're not expensive).
