Cheers Gordon,Yeah I used to have my own server running at home, 2k3/exchange blah blah blah, but for some reason Virgin Media keep changing my IP, and even DynDNS isn't liking it. I remember speaking to you about this earlier. I know virgin media/telewest dont' do static ip's cuz i've already asked then (when they were telewest i must admit, it might have changed tho).I prefer the concept of a dedi-box since it should theoretically be online 24/7 where as things in my house have a tendancy to get switched off my by safety concious house dwellers, namely my parents :-(However, like I say, I don't want to pay thru the roof for what will effectively host a low bandwith website and process a handful of emails (ok, maybe more now i'm on the kernel mailing list!), and it will act as a low bandwith file server for accessing stuff on the move. And for some reason, which i can't figure out, I would prefer a root server, probably so i know exactly whats going on on the systemAny negative thoughts on VPS's? They are so much cheaper than the dedicated systems, and for what i intend to use it for, i'm thinking a VPS is maybe best, I found a place doing a vps for 19.99 p/m+VAT, abotu £23.50 a month, which is arite i suppose.Snyway, thanks for the links and the tips, I'll keep hunting around the now.Cheers,William> Date: Sun, 24 Jun 2007 23:49:55 +0100> From: gordon at zubenel.freeserve.co.uk> To: dundee at mailman.lug.org.uk> Subject: Re: [dundee] Dedicated Servers> CC: > > Hi Bill,> > I am intending to run my own server from my home, when I get another 101 > things completed.
