I used to have two different sized displays set up on my old computer,
although i believe I had smaller resolution.
Ok, what happens to "dead zones"... under windoze, nothing. you can't
drag the mouse over at the top and/or bottom, depending on where you
configure it in the display properties. Under Linux, it's there, but
obviously you can't see it, think of windows as 2 rectangles, whereas
linux makes one big rectangle. However full screen applications won't
maximise off screen or anything. As for software (this is why I put in
about windows) both systems will do it with the standard method
configuration, although with windows you normally use the graphics card
utilities, so nvidia control panel etc. A similar utility exists for
linux, but I haven't had much experience with it, and all guide modify
xorg.conf so that's what I'd suggest.
Twinview is great in practice and even with different sized displays
you'll get a lot of use out of it
