With coursework deadlines almost over for me I'm ready to start thinking
seriously about the LFS project. I think I may have a different plan for me.
I now have this old laptop I think I'm going to try it on that, however it's
obviously not that high spec... so the newest LFS build would probably kill
it dead. The recommended Linux distro for the time (with guides to getting
the strange S3 chip setup) was RH6.2, which installs with a 2.2.14 kernel.
LFS 1.3 works on a 2.2.14 kernel so I think this might be something
pleasantly different from the 2.6 I've been used to :P
I don't know, first of all, what are the major differences between 2.2, 2.4
and 2.6? What benefits would I have from trying, say the 2.4 on it?
Anyway, more onto the point of this email. When is everyone's coursework and
exam time over? When do people actually want to start this? As people seem
to have thursdays free, Finux, can you arrange the *other* thursday to have
a lab or somewhere to work? Then what we can do is keep having sessions
every fortnight until people have got systems running as they like, we could
even continue onto BLFS or HLFS or something after if people wanted.
