TBH IMHO i think that it will get there, the reality of it was there
was a day that linux was an elitist technocrat OS, and it has evolved
into a whole different beast. I think those that where at SFD and
this years freshers fair will vouch that we spoke to more Linux users
this year than at anytime before (in fairness we put it down to the
sub-laptop market, not going to complain if it is a foot in the door
then its done it's job). As more sub-PC's engage users, the games
companies have to evolve with its user base (i think in fairness the
games companies know this is coming, and i think there just trying to
drip the last penny out of the cash cow before they need to start
doing some heavy re-investment, i also believe this was the case
before the sub-laptop explosion).

To me it is the last big obstacle Linux platforms faces, and this is
coming from a non-gamer

I still hold out hope that there is some truth to this but if you read
the accompanying thread, you'll see that the claim is dismissed by
several people due to the fact that these files are already used by the
Linux dedicated servers. The term "Steam client" was probably
misinterpreted.
