Hi Tim,

I believe CORBA is still used in GNOME. Check out ORBit and libbonobo.
I haven't used GNOME for a long time but I see that new versions of
these just came out.

Personally, I shudder every time I hear the name. It's the reason why
my dissertation was almost a total disaster. I was lucky to get 50% and
especially lucky considering my overall degree score was 50%. :-S The
university urged us not to rely on the Internet and actually try to do
some of our research using books. I have few complaints about my course
but this was one of them. There is no way a university library can keep
up with the pace of software development. The books I consulted were
around 7 years old at the time and all any of them had to say was that
CORBA was the future of distributed computing. If I'd bothered to
verify this online, I'd have discovered that it was seldom used because
everyone hated it so much. I certainly ended up hating it though my
decision to try and abstract the networking code wasn't exactly a great
idea either. I basically ended up in C++ OO hell. If I were to redo my
project now, I'm not sure what I'd use but CORBA would certainly not be
it.

James
