I've deliberately added some of the quirkier or less well known things
I use - for instance, pretty much everybody will put the gimp down for
graphics, with good reason, but there are other useful things out
there...

idraw, xv, ImageMagick, netpbm

> Internet:

ssh, wget, Firefox, mutt, sitecopy, postfix, apache, leafnode, slrn

> Multimedia:

mplayer

> Office:

LaTeX, emacs, OpenOffice

> Setting:> System:> Utilities:

emacs, RCS, find, grep, locate, bash

> Other:

jpilot, and all the programming languages and scripts - C, elisp,
bash, tcl/tk, perl, etc, etc

> And the main distro that you use.
 
Transitioning from Mandrake/Mandriva to Ubuntu.
