The University of Abertay Dundee Linux Users Society
Are proud to announce in our series of Guest Speaker Talks
the return of Tim Simpson
Thursday 13th of March 7pm
The Cinema (3rd Floor),
Students Association Building,
Bell Street,
Dundee
After the over whelming success of Tim Simpson's last talk at the Linux
Society he has kindly accepted our offer to come back and is presenting
a truly fantastic talk on the power of Drupal.
As those of you that may remember Tim form his last talk at the Linux
Society, Tim Simpson is currently the IT support manager for Dundee City
Council, who boasts a wide and varied range of experience and
understanding of both day-to-day computing management, and commands a
strong grip over modern and innovative open source technologies. In his
12 years at Dundee City Council he has seen many changes, and he has
watched open source and Linux develop a stronger foothold in the
council. One of his duties at DCC is to see how modern open source
technologies can benefit the City of Discovery's council.
His talk will be focused on a current, and exciting world of Drupal. For
those of you who are unsure about what Drupal is;
“Drupal (pronounced /ˈdruːpəl/) is a free and open source modular
framework and content management system (CMS) written in the programming
language PHP. Drupal, like many modern CMSs, allows the system
administrator to create and organize content, customize the
presentation, automate administrative tasks, and manage site visitors
and contributors. Although there is a sophisticated programming
interface, most tasks can be accomplished with little or no programming.
Drupal is sometimes described as a "web application framework," as its
capabilities extend from content management to enabling a wide range of
services and transactions.
Drupal runs in many environments, including Windows, Mac OS X, Linux,
FreeBSD, OpenBSD”

As usual the Linux Society is open to everyone, and is not limited to
University students and staff. If you know someone that is interested in
Linux, Open Source, or this talk in particular than we are both glad to
invite you and welcome you. So bring them along with you, or forward our
email or web site addresses.
If you require more information then please don't hesitate to contact
events at thelinuxsociety.org.uk or visit our web site for more information
