The US appeals court has just made a ruling regarding software patents
whereby stringent testing procedures has to be undertaken to check its
worthiness:

This means that software patents in the US have now to be thoroughly
tested in a practical perspective rather than as an abstract idea,
which changes the whole ball game in respect of software patents.
