If you had to use windows.... would they have to stick a gun to your head :-)
We're using Parallels Virtuozzo for windows virtualistation same idea/same
people that wrote openvz for linux and if you dump the gui, the same commands
for managing your containers. Its very lightweight per instance (read mid
range server, instead of huge beast server) and takes less than 5mins for us
to role out a new server complete with packaged apps (IIS, php,mysql,etc).
We still haven't decided what we are doing for linux virt, I've had an openvz
box running for over a year, but would need to find a good gui to ease the
management for the rest of the team. If the PHB decides that we need
commercial support we may go for Parallels Virtuozzo for linux, as it is the
sane technology and also integrates with the existing windows virt server
management infrastructure.
