Your average Joe isn't going to use open-office if there's already the latest version of office on the university IT-system for example. The only people who'd do that would be those that have a strong anti-m$ viewpoint etc. So in my opinion the only way it would realistically work was if we could get the uni to boycot office alltogether and only run open office.
