[dundee] Those pesky KDE devs...just a moan

It is general things like this that have caused my friend to run his desktop with 32GB RAM so he can forget about it for a long time.
I want to do the same, however 32GB on the desktop does not come cheap so I can't justify it.
Of course, 32GB per desktop in an office would just be silly unless you used the spare resources for something useful e.g. VMs for secure browsing.

You forget my age, young Padawan - in the dim and distant we didn't have no
steenkin' mice and fitting a hard disc involved a hacksaw, three strong mean
and a team of oxen. "GUI" was a sound reserved for syrup, or, if pronounced as
initials, the sound of an startled North American.
I think I shall go no further with KDE4 - requiring a per-user full-blown
mysql installation that is used merely for caching has a WTF-rating that goes
off the scale. It isn't to do with the use of resources, but also with the
security implications and the " we are doing this and you will not be able to
switch it off " attitude in the face of any criticism, which now appears to be
the modus operandi of the KDE team. I hear that they are developing a portable
computer system without batteries (it does, however, require a small nuclear
power-station) and are intending that vi be replaced with OpenOffice, your
keyboard to be 7 feet long and that the mouse will require a small donkey-
engine to power its hydraulics.
I shall have a look at CrunchBang, if only to keep Arron quiet.
I remember when this were all fields...
Disgruntled, of Newtyle.
