Really? Wow. With this discussion going on, I began wondering what my
second choice distro might be after Gentoo and I thought Slackware had
a change but not if those things are true.

OpenRC is one of the best things about Gentoo. I find it much
friendlier and less archaic than init systems on other distros and the
network configuration is amazingly flexible.

Having said that, NetworkManager is nice. Unfortunately the two can't
coexist. OpenRC suits my needs better, particularly as this machine is
a server.
