Probably because there is only one of him, although I seem to recall that
some of those you'll find on alt.os.linux.slackware, help out.
If you are looking for a new GNU/Linux Distribution it strikes me that
there seems to be really a choice of two, Debian or Slackware, both of
which have lasted nearly as long as each other, both of which are the
source for a lot of the other distro's Ubuntu is after all based on
Debian, as are a long list of others, the same applies to Slackware, if
you want a real novelty carry Slax on a 210MB mini CD in your pocket, (why
are 210 MB CD's more expensive than normal sized ones that use more
material?), or Knoppix on DVD based I understand on Debian. SUSE, IIRC was
based on Slackware, and the list goes on, whilst some of the derivatives
may have some differing approach which can be regarded as
an 'improvement', the originals still continue, which leads me to believe
that there must be an advantage to using the foundation on which others
are built. After all the originals seem to have got it right the first
time, and have been developed ever since.
