I saw that link, it helped tip me over to the Emacs camp, among other
things. Org mode does look good, as does the option of running Emacs
as a daemon. I'll test out the IRC and mail clients also but I'm
pretty happy with Irssi and Mutt.

I'll come back to Vi/Vim at some point, but only after I'm proficient
with Emacs, however long that takes.
