Dear All

I would like to invite you all to our next exhibition opening at the Hannah
Maclure Centre. I think you may like it a mixture of weird tech
engineering, sound and animation environments. Free drinks supplied too.

Best Donna

Opening reception 12 November 6pm 8pm
Continues 13 November 29 January 2010

In a world of blogs, mobile telephones, and fax machines, the Gelkie seems
like an anachronism - indeed, until recently scientists assumed they were
completely extinct. However, through painstaking research and months of
searching, Yann Seznec has succeeded in capturing a small gadroon of live
Gelkies. The first were shown in the Hannah Maclure Centre in June 2009, and
we are now proud to announce the largest ever collection of live Gelkies in
a Scottish gallery.

Gelkies are strange creatures, highly sensitive to both light and sound, and
with an extremely unusual set of group dynamics. Whilst most Gelkies need to
find a mate in order to make any sound, their communications seem limited to
interference; for lack of a better word, they only seem capable of arguing.

In this exhibit the Gelkies have been placed in enclosed areas that mimic
their natural habitats. Observe them closely and note their strange
behaviour. Please consider donating to the Scottish Gelkie Appreciation
Society to help save these extraordinary creatures.

Yann Seznec is an artist living in Edinburgh. He recently completed the
Digital Media Arts Residency at the University of Abertay, a position funded
by the Scottish Arts Council. He specializes in designing accessible
interfaces for creative expression, including audio-visual installations,
music software, and other interactive digital media. Learn more about all of
his projects at www.theamazingrolo.net
