This is a BIG NEWS message, so eyes peeled and here we go.

Next Wednesday (7 October) the School of Computing will be hosting a
visit by Professor Jeffrey Ullman of Stanford University and Google
fame. He will give a talk and seminar (see below for further details).

This is a SICSA event for the Scottish Computer Science community.
Seats for the two events can be reserved by contacting
DHelson at ed.ac.uk but space is limited so a rapid response is advised.
While the events are aimed primarily at researchers (staff, RAs, PhD
students) there may be some spaces available for students on taught
courses also, depending on demand.

We are delighted to be hosting a visit to Scotland for *Dr. Jeffrey
Ullman*, the Stanford W. Ascherman Professor of Computer Science
(Emeritus).

Jeffrey advised the Google Founders, Larry Page and Sergey Brin.

On Wednesday 7 October in Dundee, and Friday 9 October in Edinburgh ,
Jeff will be holding an afternoon seminar on the themes /of Academic
roles in start-ups and spinouts, and Emerging opportunities in
computer science for technologies  and new venture creation/.
*This is aimed very much at academics and researchers, including PhD
students, with an entrepreneurial interest*.
The Dundee event will take place between 16.00 and 18.45 in the
Wolfson Theatre in the  Queen Mother Building (School of Computing) .
Jeffrey will also deliver a keynote speech during the evening at
Dundee, entitled "Google Changes the World" at 19.00 in the Wolfson
Theatre as well. A buffet will follow at 20.00.

The Edinburgh event will take place in the Informatics Forum, Room
G03, University of Edinburgh, between 14.00 and 17.00.

Spaces are limited (to 50 each session) so please register your
interest as soon as possible by emailing Danny Helson at
DHelson at ed.ac.uk<mailto:DHelson at ed.ac.uk>.  We expect a large amount
of interest in these workshops and lectures, so please RSVP by 17.00
on Thursday, October 1st, 2009. Places will be given on a first-come,
first-served basis. SICSA members of staff and PhD students are
invited, and there is no charge for the seminar.

There is also an opportunity for a few one on one meetings with Jeff
Ullman on Thursday morning for 1 - 1 sessions. 4 slots of 1 hour each
are available.
