hi, i dont often check my lug emails these days, but this title caught my
eye after recently exploring the subject... so i'm sure i'll waffle on
plenty about it....

^ this was one of the main sites that got me going... so keen was i, i have
even started a plan for making a "distro" like such.

how low do you want to go?
equip as old as oasis?
even if you dont have one as low as needs these super minimal "transparent
weight" setups, you're sure to experience the performance boon from having
done so on a machine from around 2000 than 1995.
a couple other interesting discussions on forums with more suggestion gems:

http://crunchbanglinux.org/forums/topic/4990/make-linux-faster-lighter/
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=8082276#post8082276
but really, arch forums, gentoo forums and linuxquestions and justlinux and
linux forums all have piles of other hidden gems.
and there's gotta be more bloggers out there sharing their experiences
surely. methinks it time i got my own "digit's linux blog". (
http://digitslinuxblog.blogspot.com/2009/10/digits-first-blog.html )
so anyways, all the best with the older hardware. my recomendation might as
well be just use older software, and only update specifically what you
need. its amazing how so many things have bloated and demand more of your
resources now.
