I've some additional suggestions:-

Ask the right person...and ask if there's anyone they know who might also lend 
a hand (well....give some money).

Be specific - be specific about sponsorship levels, what they cost, and what 
the sponsor is going to receive for the money: especially the latter. If in 
doubt, offer advertising as there is always a budget for that.
